The Carbon Trust Standard (CTS)

The Carbon Trust Standard has effectively put an end to the uncertainty of using independent ‘carbon footprinting’ service providers. It is run by the Carbon Trust and is designed to provide a robust, objective and consistent methodology for assessing corporate carbon performance.
The Standard is based on ISO 14064-1 and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Standard from the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). It specifies requirements in three key areas:
• Carbon footprint measurement
• Carbon management
• Carbon reduction performance
How can my organisation gain Carbon Trust Standard Accreditation?
WM Energy can assist your organisation to achieve and maintain the Carbon Trust Standard (CTS). The data gathered to achieve the CTS is core to other WM Energy services, for example a Sustainability Report or Environmental Policy Statement (EPS) will need to display data of carbon emissions.
Data management is a key element of the CTS accreditation, your emissions data from energy, gas, transport and other emissions must be made available for audit at renewal time. WM Energy has developed its in-house risk management software ‘Meridian’ to manage CTS and CRC data – Read more>
Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) and the Carbon Trust Standard (CTS)
Organisations that are required to enter the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) can use the CTS to reduce their compliance costs, the CTS is an ‘early action metric’ in the first year of the scheme.
Achieving the CTS will increase the number of allowances recycled to you by increasing your position in the league table. It is one of only two ‘early action metrics’ in the CRC, the other being the installation of Smart Meters.
Whether you are a large user intending to gain the CTS for CRC compliance or a small company wanting to calculate your carbon footprint using a government managed standard, WM Energy can assist you to achieve your goals.
